January 15th Meeting: Great Streets & Venice Blvd

The Mar Vista Chamber meets next on January 15th and we’ll be discussing aspects of the Great Streets project set to take place on Venice Blvd in Mar Vista.

Mayor Eric Garcetti has big plans for the streets of Los Angeles, and his Executive Order announcing the formation of 15 Great Streets is one of the biggest. Each of the 15 City Council Districts has a Great Street, and in CD 11 they’ve chosen Venice Blvd, running right through the heart of Mar Vista – from Beethoven to Inglewood.

The idea behind Great Streets is that “…each neighborhood needs a great street as its backbone.” And in our case, Venice Blvd is already doing that job. The project will allow community members in Mar Vista to help design ways to improve and maintain Venice Blvd to better serve our needs here.

Great Streets will bring together multiple City Departments as a working group in order to foster close coordination for the projects: City Planning, Cultural Affairs, Transportation, Public Works, Engineering, Street Lighting, Sanitation, Economic & Workforce Development, and Street Services.

Both the Mar Vista Community Council (MVCC) and the Mar Vista Chamber have been – and will continue to be – involved in building the Great Streets plan for Venice Blvd. Your input as stakeholders is welcome at any of our public meetings.

The Mar Vista Chamber meets each third Thursday of the month at the Coffee Connection/West LA Café (3838 S. Centinela Ave.) at 9am – and the January meeting will be devoted to the Great Streets Initiative. (Thursday, January 15th.) The MVCC Great Streets Ad Hoc Committee meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6pm at the Mar Vista Library.
